Same-sex marriages and homosexuality

People, who are against legalization of same-sex marriages, believe that it will increase the number of people with a homosexual orientation.
This affirmation is unlikely to be true. Legalization of same-sex marriages, can only change societys opinion of homosexuality. In case of its legalization, the society will discover that homosexuals love each other and are able to create stable and long-standing relationships. These should be legally recognized, because homosexuals should have the same protection, rights and benefits as heterosexuals have.
Gays and lesbians dont want to be called partners any more. They want to be called spouses, but their relationships legal marriages. They want to have engagement, weddings and honey-moons.
Homosexual marriages should be supported in order to:
cut down the number of impermanent relations among homosexuals by stimulating long-standing ones
decrease social and personal problems, which sole people usually have
protect same-sex couples from juridical and social discrimination
protect children brought up in homosexual families
Its obvious, that recognition of same-sex marriages will lower social hatred against homosexuals. Its considered that social loyalty will provoke increase of homosexuality.
The history of human sexuality denies this statement. It was discovered that a person is unable to choose or change his or her sexual orientation. The orientation is shaped under influence of biological, genetic and other factors, but it doesnt depend on social influence. Society is powerless to transform homosexuals into straights. All the attempts of doing it have failed; some of them had rather tragic results. A person cant change his or her orientation under the influence of popularization, recruiting or seduction.
Federal judge Richard Posner has claimed that homosexuality is more likely to occur rather in tolerant society, than in repressive one. But there exists no proof that legalization of same-sex marriages has increased the level of homosexuality in Holland or Belgium.
In fact, the legalization doesnt affect the number of gays or lesbians .They just become happier. Is that bad?
The society recognition will give the opportunity to come out for those who are afraid to claim openly their sexual orientation. It will decrease moral and physic violence. Cases of dismissing because of sexual orientation will disappear only when homosexuality gets legal status. Gays and lesbians will suffer less because of breaking up with relatives and friends.
In connection with abovementioned another question occurs:
Will legalization of same-sex marriages affect sexual activity of homosexual couples?
Its rather difficult to answer the question. If it will - many peoples will oppose legalization. Some people suppose that removal of sexual barriers will provoke peoples desire to experiment in their sex life. More teen-agers will try things which have been forbidden before.
On the other hand, the legalization can reduce sexual activity. The opportunity to live openly will increase the per cent of same-sex monogamous couples. Homosexuals will stop breaking up and changing partners.
Moreover, the general level of sexual activity wont change. So, we can conclude that legalization of same-sex marriages wont do harm. Each member of society should have the same rights. The society demands the same responsibilities for its members and forgets about their rights. Everybody should understand that after getting the legal status, homosexuals will get more than common rights and responsibilities - they will get the right to be happy.
