Lesbians and STDs

As you know, there is a widespread myth that says that a women can not transmit a STDs to another woman. This misconception is caused by lack of information and researches in this field.

A few factors resulting in risks of STDs infection:

The risk of infection depends on STDs character. Some of diseases can be transmitted by both men and women. Many diseases are transmitted by direct contact of skins or membranes. Bacterial vaginosis, herpes and genital wart virus could be easily transmitted by one woman to another. The risk of being infected with Chlamydia, gonorrhea, hepatitis B and HIV is much less, but also possible.

The risk of transmission also depends on sexual behavior of partners. Not all the couples behave the same when having sex. Some of them use sex toys. These devices should be carefully washed and used only by one couple. Do not put any sex toy into your vagina after it was in someones anus. If you dont have possibility to clean vibrator or dildo at once, youd better cover it with condom. Other couples stimulate partner using fingers. Its better to keep the nails short for not irritating mucous membrane.

The risk of infection increases when you have sex with both men and women. In these cases the list of possible diseases grows up.

The risk grows up when you have many partners. Persons who practice group sex, or often change their partners should be more attentive to contraception. Even if you have one single partner, its better to discuss your STDs history and to consult your physician. Remember that you could be infected with vaginitis and have no symptoms of it, such as discharge or yeast. Confess your homosexuality when visiting the gynecologist. This way youll avoid many senseless questions and doctor will be able to give you more voluble advice.

You should visit your doctor more often, because STDs can proceed without any symptoms. The contact with infected partner is not the only cause of getting a disease. There are many other causes of getting STDs: diet, stress, sharing hygiene things.

Actually, STDs are the most difficult treated diseases. They can cause many complications, which affect not only genitals, but other organs, cause barrenness and even death. Thats why the easiest way to protect oneself, is to prevent them. Keeping genitals clean and dry is the necessary condition for disease prevention.
It could seem to you that you have some kind of vaginitis.Dont sound the alarm at once. The irritation could be a reaction to lubricants, laundry detergents, soap or nylon underwear. Any kind of irritation causes discomfort. Anyway, consulting experienced specialist will do you only good. No one except you will take care of your health.
The treatment depends on certain STD. The most popular treatment is taking antibiotic by month or using it inside vagina. There are special vaginal creams and gels. The problem is that many vaginitis could soon recur. In such cases antibiotics should be taken for a long period of time. When the acidity is reduced, physician can prescribe special propionic acid jelly. This kind of treatment increases the quantity of normal bacteria, which bar the way to microbes.
There are also antifungal drugs, which are to treat yeast infection. They can be in form of creams, suppository, or pills. Taking a single pill is usually more effective than creams and suppositories.
While treating trichomoniasis a single dose of Metronidazole is usually prescribed. But it often provokes nausea and vomiting. To take several small dosages would be better.
While treating any of STDs, both partners should take medicine to prevent its transmission. Its important to use condoms during each intercourse until absolute recovery, no matter what sex is your partner.
